Harold Arthur Olson....was born on March 16, 1904 to Henry A. and Lottie(Lovestuen) Olson near Wentworth, S.D. where he was raised and attended school. Upon completion of his education, he farmed on his parents' farm. On July 5, 1938, he was united in marriage to Marie Hagedorn at St. Paul Methodist Church in Papillion, Ne. Following their marriage, they farmed the famly farm near Wentworth. In 1944, they moved to a farm in Gray Township near Pipestone, Mn. They continued to farm there until 1967 when they bought a house in Ihlen, Mn. Harold continued to work after his retirement by helping other farmers when needed, by mowing the Ihlen city property, and by working for the REA until he was in his 80's. In 1991, Harold & Marie moved to the Storybrook Apartments in Pipestone, Mn. Then, in July, 1994, Harold became a resident of the Good Samaritan Village in Pipestone, Mn. After suffering from emphysema, Harold died at the Good Samaritan Village on Sunday, January 8, 1995.
While Harold was a member of First Lutheran Church in Pipestoe, he helped build the present church building in the 50's. More recently, he was one of the early founding members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Pipestone, Mn. He served on the Ihlen City Council for a time; and, in his younger years, he served on the school board of Pipestone County School District #5. Harold was active in church and community affairs, both in South Dakota and again in Minnesota.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marie Olson of Pipestone, Mn.; six children, Lyle and his wife Ruth Olson of Faribault, Mn; Antoinette and her husband Dennis Bowman of Jackson, Mn.; Ethelyn and her husband Norm Fey of Edgerton, Mn.; Harlan Olson of Golden Valley, Mn.; Wally and his wife Pat Olson of Champlin, Mn.; and Lois and her husband Bruce Kooiman of Edgerton, Mn.; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Benora Hexom of Madison, S.D.; and Lorraine Norby of Howard, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Gwendolyn Olson; one brother, Merlin Olson; and one sister, Ethelyn Frank.
Marie Frances Olson
Marie Frances Olson was born on May 20, 1908 to Fred and Nettie(Buller) Hagedorn near Papillion, Ne. where she was raised and attended school, graduating in May of 1926.
Following her education, she then worked as a supervisor at a crippled chldren's home in Omaha, Ne. On July 5, 1938, she was united in marriage to Harold A. Olson in Papillion. Following their marriage, they farmed the family farm near Wentworth, S.D. In 1944, they moved to a farm in Gray Township near Pipestone, Mn. They continued farming there until 1967 when they bought a house in Ihlen, Mn. There she was able to enjoy her love of flowers and gardening. In 1991, Marie & Harold moved to the Stroybrook Apartments in Pipestone, Mn. It was at this time that she was able to pursue her lifelong interest in music and art work. In the fall of 1994, Marie joined Harold as a resident of Good Samaritan Village in Pipestone, Mn. On January 8, 1995, Harold preceded her in death. On February 11, 2000, she became a resident of the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Mn. where she died on Sunday, February 13, 2000.
She was a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church of Pipestone, Mn. where she attended several Bible studies and was part of the ladies group, WMF. Before that she was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Pipestone, Mn.
She is lovingly remembered by her six children, Lyle and his wife Ruth Olson of Fairbault, Mn.; Antoinette Bowman of Jackson, Mn.; Ethelyn and her husband Norm Fey of Edgerton, Mn. Harlan and his wife Joyce Olson of Shakopee, Mn.; Wally and his wife Pat Olson of Champlin, Mn.; and Lois and her husband Bruce Kooiman of Edgerton, Mn.; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Gwendolyn Olson; one son-in-law, Dennis Bowman; two brothers, Arthur and Abner Hagedorn; and one sister Tony Gorman.
